Sabres acquire Craig Rivet from San Jose

Darcy must like working on holidays. The Sabres have a new defenseman.

The Sabres sent two second round picks to San Jose in exchange for defenseman Craig Rivet and a seventh round pick.

In 2007-08, Rivet scored five goals and 30 assists in 74 regular season games. The assists and 35 points were career highs. He also had six assists in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Can you stop freaking out now, Sabres Nation?

According to the Buffalo Sabres’ website, the second rounders are Buffalo’s own in 2009 and 2010, so Vancouver’s in 2010 is still Buffalo’s property.

Darcy seems to be happy about the move.

“We are very excited to add such a quality veteran player to our roster,” said Regier. “He is a great character player that will provide our club added leadership and experience.”

Now, the question is… are they done yet?

  1. I’d like to see a serious play for Rhett Warrener to return to Buffalo as a 5 or 6 man.

  2. I don’t think Warrener is capable of being a 5 man, he’s too broken down at this point to be relied on. Plus, if they bring him in, they’ll need to move someone else because they don’t have enough spots for more guys.
