A note from the author:

Hi.

I’ve been a Buffalo sports fan for as long as I can remember. My first memory of Buffalo sports… er, crushing defeat, would be when I was not quite three years old, laying under a table in the living room of my house watching Super Bowl XXV. I’m glad I was able to start out on top.

I am a coldblooded Buffalo sports fan. I’ve had Sabres season tickets since the lockout. I’ve had Bandits season tickets since 2005. I’ve shared Bills season tickets with my friends for a few years too as well. I have been burned by my teams so many times I’ve lost count.

It really is tough. Buffalo sports fans are a different breed. If we gave up when things looked bleak, we’d never attempt anything. All we need is one glimmer of hope as an excuse to put our hearts into something.

I expect this blog to be good. I have a sick sense of humor, so sometimes that is evident in the work, but the content will still be there. I want you to come back and read this daily. So… please do that. I’ll try to make it worthwhile.

About the title:

Three Heros

Three Heros

“3rd Man In” is a penalty in hockey. A player is assessed a game misconduct for being the third man into an altercation.

During the lockout, Sabres defenseman Henrik Tallinder was arrested in Sweden for allegedly raping a girl in a hotel room… with fellow NHLers Kristian Huselius and Andreas Lilja*.

That’s right. Three guys. One girl. The term “3rd Man In” took on a whole new meaning.

The charges were dropped when it became apparent that it was consensual. But still.

* sidenote: It was actually Andreas Lilja, not Peter Worrell pretending he was Andreas Lilja

Reminds me of bystander effect/guilt…..of being punished for not intervening when you see a crime go down and being punished for trying to intervene.

It is alot easier being a Buffalo sports fan outside of Buffalo. It is easy to get caught up in the wins and losses because Buffalo is so passionate about its teams. Some are excited or depressed depending on what happens on gameday. I miss the passion of the living in the city, but am able to seperate what is entertainment at the root of it, and what I deem to be more important. On a personal level of course. I could not judge from anyone others perspective other than the one I see right now.
On that note, I am looking forward to seeing the sabres in denver this weekend.
Thanks for listening to my rant

No problem, Michael. Thank you for checking out my page. I agree that it’s probably easier, but i’ll take what I can get. I’m not much of a traveler. Hopefully when this year of school is over, I can find a nice job in the area. I can’t imagine being outside of the state when the Bills and Sabres play. It must be a huge difference, especially that first season. Either way, i’m sure that passion lives whether you live in Orchard Park or Orlando!

Go Bills, Go Sabres, it’s the hand we were dealt. A marriage til death and being like a battered woman (poor analogy, but it works).
