The Sabres came to Long Island for a Columbus Day match up and left quite successful. Buffalo put a hurting on the Isles, 7-1. Thomas Vanek had two goals in the rout of New York. Patrick Lalime also looked solid in his first start as a Buffalo Sabre.

With the game out of reach in the second period, Adam Mair was jumped off the face off resulting a line brawl. Here is the summary of penalties.

8:43 NYI-Sean Bergenheim : Fighting (maj) – 5 min, Game misconduct. Brendan Witt : Fighting (maj) – 5 min, Game misconduct. Nate Thompson : Fighting (maj) – 5 min, 10 min misconduct

The game was chippy all afternoon with the Sabres controlling all of the play. Henrik Tallinder got into a bit of a scrap with the little punk, Mike Comrie, as well as Andrew Peters mixing it up with Andy Hilbert late.
Jochen Hecht left the game early in the 2nd period with an upper body injury.
When the Sabres are back in action on Wednesday night, Matt Ellis is likely to make his Buffalo debut.

Craig Rivet is my new favorite Sabre. Cheap or not, it’s a message that was needed to be sent.
