Ok, yeah, right.
The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenseman Jeff Finger to a four-year deal worth $3.5 million per season.
Jeff Finger is a 28 year old, second year player, coming off a 79 game season in Colorado. He has totaled a robust 29 points in 94 games before being highly coveted (apparently just by the Leafs).
Someone please tell me what makes the Leafs do such a thing? Not that I’m complaining, but when the Sabres deal with a fruitbasket-like defensemen asking for too much money (CAMPBELL)… they subtract, not add.
Speaking of horrible signings, the Leafs were back at it a few hours later.
They inked another 28 year old. This time, an electrifying 41 point scorer, Niklas Hagman from Dallas. Hagman goes from making $675,000 to a cool $3 million a year over 4 years for putting in a career high 27 goals.
So, while Darcy stayed calm on day one, and Sabre fans grew tired of waiting, the Leafs once again took a step (or two) backwards.
Golf, Leafs. Golf.
Jeff Finger! Toronto just gained a few more fans in the Upper Peninsula.
